Having announced the release date for Clarkson, Hammond and May’s new car show, The Grand Tour, Amazon aren’t wasting any time encouraging consumers to sign up for Amazon Prime in order to watch the show.
Currently for two days, Amazon are offering £25 off a Fire TV Stick if you sign up for Amazon Prime. That means the cost of the Fire TV Stick will drop to just £9.99 and of course say Amazon, you’ll be able to watch The Grand Tour on it from the 18th of November.
Don’t bother to try an access the deal if you’re already a Prime member though, you’ll simply get a message saying “We’re sorry, This offer is only available to new Prime members”.
I think this is a bit of a boo boo on Amazon’s part for two reasons. Firstly it’s never a good idea to piss off your existing customers by offering a better deal to potential new customers. It’s just bad business to send the message “Thanks for your money, but newbies are more important to us”. The second reason it’s a bad move is that the chances are existing Prime customers will already have a means of watching Prime Video so many probably wouldn’t want a Fire TV Stick regardless how cheap it may be.
I fall into both categories, I’m slightly peeved that I am excluded from the offer, but already have a Fire TV Stick on one TV and a device with the Amazon app built in on the other TV. Amazon have basically upset me by telling me I can’t have something I didn’t want in the first place!
