eBay.com today launched a Price Match Guarantee on over 50,000 Daily Deals items. The scheme is fairly simple one.
If you can find an eBay competitor offering the same product for less, once verified, eBay will give you a coupon for the difference in price. Eligible items for the Price Match Guarantee are any of the 50,000 new items available in the eBay Daily Deals. Obviously goods have to be identical and currently available. eBay has defined competitors as Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Jet.com, HomeDepot.com, Sears.com, Target.com, Walmart.com or Wayfair.com.
Hal Lawton, who heads up eBay’s American business, says: “Shoppers can shop with confidence knowing that they’re getting the best value available on eBay. Our eBay Deals selection has grown exponentially since being launched in 2011. The vast majority of our deals are already lower priced or equal to our competitors, but if a shopper finds it for less, we’ll gladly match the price of our competitors.”
Price matches such as these are hardly new (and interestingly Amazon doesn’t offer one) but it is a show of confidence from eBay that they think their prices are highly competitive. But the process for claiming you coupon for the difference is rather cumbersome. The claim process detailed on this page.
You will have to send an email Customer Support, then offer proof of the deal elsewhere and then wait for it to be verified. If successful, eBay will issue you with a coupon and you can proceed to make the purchase. Hopefully this will be a swift process. As to why you wouldn’t buy the cheaper item on the other sit, isn’t entirely clear.
The guarantee is currently only available on eBay.com to US shoppers.
