Whistl has opened a new Bolton super depot located on the Logistics North development by Junction 4 of the M61. The company started moving in during April installing the machinery that enables it to process mail and parcels for distribution across the UK. The new facility will create 500 jobs over the course of the year.
In conjunction with the local council, 60 vacancies have ring-fenced for people who have been long-term unemployed.
The Bolton facility consolidates former depots at Leeds and Warrington and brings 33% greater capacity for future expansion of the existing mail, packet and parcel and ecommerce business.
Not only does it bring greater capacity but Whistl expects it will also bring operational efficiency because the building has 4 level access doors, 20 dock levellers, 50 trailer parking spaces, 31 loading positions and 222 car parking spaces.
Nick Wells: “The opening of Bolton is a significant development for us at Whistl as we continue to invest in the business to provide clients with the highest quality and most efficient service. I am pleased that clients and representatives from the local community joined us today to celebrate this significant milestone for our company.”
Whistl operates Business Mail, Doordrop Media and Parcels and handles 3.8bn items a year.

Confused so they are saying they have created 500 new jobs over the next 12 months…
Then they say
The Bolton facility consolidates former depots at Leeds and Warrington
OK, so what happened to the staff working at the former depots in Leeds and Warrington?? Hell if I had to move from Leeds to Bolton, or even do that as a daily commute I wouldn’t be too happy.
So I assume jobs from those 2 depots have been lost? so would I be correct in thinking they may have made people redundant from Leeds, and Warrington, say, 1000 people, just so they can employ 500 people in Bolton???
