The Ford Capri that eBay restored over the three days at this year’s at the Silverstone Classic sold for £17,015.00, with all proceeds going to the Silverstone Classic’s charity partner Prostate Cancer UK.
With one owner from new and only about 85,000 miles on the clock, hardly having moved for a decade, the 33-year-old 2.8 Injection Capri was brought back to life live in front of festival-goers at the Silverstone Classic in front of 100,000 car enthusiasts.
A crack team of mechanics led by Fergus Walkinshaw were hand picked (some of whom were of F1 racing pedigree) with the addition of a mechanic from the Forces’ Motorsport Charity. Hundreds of parts and accessories were sourced on eBay in preparation for the restoration. The ultimate aim was to inspire festival goers to undertake their own restorations and show what’s possible, even with a car for which the majority of parts simply haven’t been made for decades but can still be found on eBay.
This year’s choice of motor drew bigger crowds than ever due to it’s timeless beauty – everyone loved the Capri in it’s day and it’s the car that everyone wanted to own and for the lucky few who did drive a Capri there’s an endless love for the marque.
The finished car was presented to the crowds by Mike Brewer and then auctioned on eBay for Charity and is now on it’s way to it’s new owner, who is lucky enough to have one of the most sorted Capri’s still roadworthy and the car is complete with a fresh MOT.
