Amazon slash Echo Price (inc £70 off Echo Show)

Amazon have slashed the prices of their Echo range of devices just 10 days before Christmas. Sorry if you’ve already purchased one, but if you haven’t you might want to jump in quick while prices are low.

These are some cracking prices and, although anything is possible, we wouldn’t expect them to be beaten any time soon. Even over the Black Friday weekend there was no discount offered on the Echo Show so to see 35% slashed off the price of Amazon’s newest device is a pleasant surprise.

Which Amazon Echo should I buy?

If you’re not sure which device to buy then each has some basic features which will save you reading all the blurb:

The Echo Dot

The Dot is the cheapest Echo – good for everything except surround sound music (it’ll still play music but the speakers aren’t great.

The Echo

This is now the second generation Amazon Echo and slightly smaller with a choice of colours is the one to go for if you love your music. The built in speakers are superb compared with the Dot

The Echo Plus

Basically the same as the standard Echo but with the addition of a built in smart hub and currently ships with a Philips Hue White E27 Edison Screw Light Bulb. The internal smart hub is from ZigBee so works with ZigBee lights, plugs and smart devices from brands including Philips Hue, Hive and more. Pick this one if you want to run smart home devices as well as all the features from the Echo.

The Echo Show

With the addition of a screen the Echo Show can do everything the Echo can do but also display content such as Flash News briefings, song lyrics, count down times and video conferencing. This device is great if you have smart cameras such as a door entry camera or baby monitor.

If you have one echo Show you’ll probably want two or at least have a friend that has one so you can ‘drop in’ on them, or coming soon will be a new Echo Spot (basically a Dot with a screen) which will be a lower cost way of extending video.
