As previously announced, eBay are continuing their migration to HTTPS support on all pages across the site including listing pages and in eBay shops.
The reason for this change is quite simply an Internet wide change as standards are universally accepted and browsers mark HTTP pages as “Not Secure”. If you don’t update your content on eBay the impact is that buyers might not see your full content.
To make sure that your buyers see a “Secure” page, eBay are now making a change to how desktop users view such content in item descriptions. From March 2018, eBay listings with HTTP content will feature a button reading “See full item description”, putting the complete description one click away. This experience is similar to how buyers already view all listings on mobile web. Item descriptions that are HTTPS compliant will continue to display the full description as normal.
What do you need to make your listings HTTPS complaint?
To show your complete item description automatically, simply add HTTPS protocol to any non-secure content.
You can do this for 500 listings at a time with our bulk edit tool. Once all your content (including your images) is on a secure server, select ‘Edit listings in bulk’, then use find and replace to replace “HTTP” with “HTTPS”.
What do you need to make your eBay Shop HTTPS complaint?
eBay are also making eBay shops fully HTTPS compliant. If you have a custom shop you are strongly advised to change to the native eBay shops experience and not invest any more money in your custom shop. If you don’t have a custom eBay shop then you should not invest in custom eBay shop design. Read our post on eBay shops for more details.
