Check out the eBay 2018 SHINE awards

No primary category set

It’s the third year of these prizes and now the eBay 2018 SHINE awards are upon us again. You can read more here and check out the video below. The idea of the awards is to highlight and recognise the role sellers play in powering the eBay marketplace.

Up for grabs are $10,000, also a VIP trip to eBay’s Open seller celebration and a 1-year Anchor Store subscription among other goodies.

Our Seller Community is the heart of everything we do. You drive our identity and purpose, and without you, we don’t succeed. To celebrate the lifeblood of eBay, and recognize National Small Business Week, we’re launching the SHINE Awards for Small Business for the third year in a row. The awards are eBay’s opportunity to shine a light on our vibrant community of sellers. Sellers are the essence of who we are, and my favorite part of the year is celebrating their personal stories.
– Bob Kupbens, VP of B2C Selling and Global Trust

The various awards are:

● Global Business: A small business owner who sells a portion of their inventory on eBay internationally.
● Minority or Woman-Owned: A female small business owner or small business owner from a racial or ethnic minority group: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian American, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander.
● Everyday Hero: A small business or organization owner who drives a positive impact in their community or leverages the eBay for Charity program.
● Young Entrepreneur: A person between the ages of 18-35 who owns or has a major role in the business operations of a small business selling on eBay.
● Click-and-Mortar Business Owner: A small business owner who sells both on eBay and from a physical retail location.

As it stands the eBay 2018 SHINE awards are only open to eBay sellers based in the United States. The official landing page is here.

    ??????

  2. wheres the section for short fat baldy white men over 60?
I am being discriminated against I want compensation

  3. joking aside
ebay is making these people different ,even offering incentive to be different, what happened to the global community everyone is equal

  4. I have no problem with minority awards per se, when such minorities have, for whatever reason, had a difficult time in the past, and this award can help re-balance or rectify past wrongs, or even form some kind of apology.

are ebay seriously suggesting they actively placed barriers in front of women and ethnic minorities previously?
given that such discriminations were illegal long before ebay was even invented, so there are certainly no old ‘legacy’ lingerings left over from the old uneven world, so there should be absolutely no resaon for any sort of unlevel playing field on ebay.

unless ebay put the barriers there on purpose?

well that was the case, until ebay went and made an apparently even field uneven with this discrimination award.

they used a very, VERY, long-winded way of saying “no white men”, but the actual meaning of that paragraph is “no white men” whatever way you chose to vocalise it.

perhaps ebay are of the opinion that white men are naturally better than everyone else, therefore, everyone else obviously needs a boost of some kind? that kind of crass patronising can be very telling of a company attitude to minorities.

perhaps they’re just cynically cashing in on feminism. treat women as if they’re all victims, so you can pretend to be on the side of the victim, in lieu of cheap advertising. also extremely patronising.

racism isn’t a good thing, whether you’re discriminating against african american women, asian kids, or white men. take a good hard look at what you’re trying to say here ebay, and then say something significantly better.
