eBay and PayPal make new agreement good until 2023

eBay and PayPal have today confirmed they have signed a previously-announced agreement to offer PayPal as a way to pay on eBay until July 2023. This new agreement builds on the historic payments partnership between the companies to make PayPal available as a payment option under eBay’s new intermediated payments system.

Obviously, eBay will be moving away from PayPal to offer an intermediated payments service powered by European fintech company Adyen. The testing will start this year but the full transition won’t occur until 2010. But now it’s certain that the status quo will remain on some level and PayPal will definitely be available to buyers and sellers who want to use it. PayPal stocks enjoyed a boost after the announcement.

We are pleased to continue to offer PayPal as a form of payment on eBay and look forward to a continued, strong partnership with PayPal going forward. PayPal has been a great partner for eBay, and as part of our new payments experience PayPal will continue to be a key form of payment for our global customers. We are pleased to continue to offer PayPal as a form of payment on eBay and look forward to a continued, strong partnership with PayPal going forward.
– Devin Wenig, president and CEO, eBay

As previously announced, the new agreement between eBay and PayPal will ensure that PayPal as a form of payment continues to be available to buyers on the eBay marketplace. PayPal services that will continue will include payments through the PayPal payment button, as well as the usual other value-added services such as fraud detection and buyer protections.

We are proud to have extended our relationship with eBay and our commitment to build on more than 15 years of collaboration and innovation with a great partner. We are excited to continue to provide our millions of mutual customers with innovative, trusted and seamless PayPal payment experiences.
– Dan Schulman, president and CEO, PayPal

And as it stands immediately nothing will alter. PayPal continues to provide a comprehensive payments solution to eBay under the existing Operating Agreement until July 2020.

  2. I don’t understand what, if any, difference there will be in the usual running of ebay/payal. Paymrnt of ebay fees through paypal at point of sale would be a huge improvement, however, Is that what this means?

  3. Dear Paypal, yes of course you can stay on eBay but you MUST remove buyers email addresses from the transaction pages.

    Literally what I think’s happened…….
