DHL Freight is offering customers throughout Europe an additional Fixed Delivery Day (FDD) service for its standard product Freight EuroConnect. The new service allows customers to hand over their shipment to the DHL Freight network up to five business prior to transport, fix the delivery date and have their shipment delivered exactly on time.
With the new Fixed Delivery Day option, we are customizing transit and delivery times according to the needs of our customers. Timing is everything when it comes to planning and managing supply chains and production process. This way our customers receive their shipments exactly when needed. This addition to our product portfolio is one more part of our Freight 2020 strategy, which aims at even better service quality for our customers
– Uwe Brinks, CEO, DHL Freight
Orders can be booked online or by telephone and the shipment tracking system allows end-to-end tracking from pickup through to final delivery. When ordering Freight EuroConnect service, customers should select the Fixed Delivery Day service as an additional option. After the shipment is picked up at the customer’s premises, it is stored for up to five business days within the DHL Freight network so that it can be delivered on time on the specified delivery day. In Germany and Sweden, customers with domestic shipments can also specify the time of delivery (delivery before 10.00 am or before 12.00 noon).
It’s easy to see why a service like this is attractive to ecommerce merchants, especially when ordering a large consignment for delivery when there is no flexibility on the when the goods can be delivered to your warehouse or premises. There’s no word in the materials we’ve seen as to whether this service attracts an additional fee, but hopefully not.
