eBay.com volume pricing promo to encourage bulk buy discounts

No primary category set

eBay.com are running a promotion to encourage sellers to offer bulk discounts. If a buyer purchases an item with volume pricing in a quantity greater than one, then you’ll get 50% off your final value fees for each additional item they’ve purchased. This is an ideal promotion for sellers who offer free postage as the carriage costs will already be built into the cost of a single item and in most cases you’ll be able to offer a discount for shipping two or more items in the same package.

The volume pricing promotion has only just been announced on the eBay.com announcement board, but has been running from the 23rd of October and ends on the 21st of November. It is restricted to invited sellers and you must activate the offer and then either update existing listings for Qualifying Items or create new listings for Qualifying Items in the fixed price, auction-style, or auction-style with Buy It Now format during the Promotion Period. Qualifying items must be listed with a volume pricing discount and sold in a set greater than 1.

Final value Fee 50% Volume Pricing example

If a listing is created with a volume pricing discount and a set of two is sold, the regularly applicable final value fee will apply to the first item sold in the set, and a 50% refund will apply to the second item sold in the set.

If a set of three is sold the regularly applicable final value fee will apply to the first item and a 50% refund will be applied to the second and third item sold.

Sellers that have been invited to participate will automatically receive the Promotion for multi-quantity sales with Volume Pricing enabled on listings created on eBay.com through the Sell Your Item form, eBay Seller Tools, eBay Mobile applications, and most third-party tools. The promotional refund will not be shown during the listing process. Instead, the refund will be reflected as a credit within 30 days of the transaction.

  1. I’ve seen this advertised in the UK Seller Hub as “coming soon” so it looks like we’ll be getting it fairly soon on this side of the Atlantic too. Already use this type of feature on Amazon Business, but it’s limited in the sense that only business customers can benefit from volume discounts. Hopefully that won’t be the case on eBay as we’re happy to give volume discounts to anyone. Not quite sure why Amazon insist you have to be a business to get volume discounts.

  2. We already use the buy 3 items and get £5 off promotion but it does not get that many sales

  3. The feature is now active under promotions, just set one item up as a test with a scaling discount, it says the promotion is active but it doesn’t seem to work on the site when viewing the item. No mention of multi buy discounts.
