eBay Payments will be rolled out in Germany so long as no regulatory issues get in the way.
“Bringing our managed payments experience to Germany will provide a diverse testing ground for more payment methods as we expand globally. Across the 190 markets our sellers serve around the world, there is a pent-up demand for a checkout experience on eBay that is more consistent with retail standards and with more flexibility and choice for payment options. When managed payments becomes available in Germany and we continue to offer additional ways to pay, our sellers will gain more opportunities to access new buyers, who in turn will be able to pay how they choose in the streamlined payments experience.”
– Alyssa Cutright, Vice President of Global Payments, Billing & Risk, eBay
For eBay to pick Germany as the first country outside of the US to expand eBay Payments to isn’t a surprise. We predicted that Germany would be top of the list back in February when eBay indicated a second country site would be announced in the second quarter of the year.
“Germany is a possibility as Germans are not quite the fans of PayPal that Brits are. Germans love paying by direct debit and paying via card could be interesting – Germany would be an even more attractive market as eBay Payments progress outside the US if Adyen and eBay enable direct bank transfers.”
– Tamebay, Feb 2019
eBay plans to offer buyers in Germany a variety of payment options, including credit card, direct debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal.
“Germany is one of eBay’s largest markets globally and German customers place a high value on a convenient and seamless shopping experience, including a preference for a variety of payment options. This makes the German marketplace the perfect choice for expanding the new payments experience beyond the U.S. The offering will drive significant efficiencies and benefits for our customers, including helping our buyers pay the way they want.”
– Eben Sermon, Vice President, eBay Germany
eBay say that they continue to see accelerated momentum with its managed payments, having processed a total of $363M in GMV and saving sellers $2.7M as of the end of Q1 2019.

Yes, you predicted right. Can we now have your views please on what country is next and when ? Thanks
Now that’s a prompt reply ! Thanks again. The second half is in … about 2 months.
The impact may be different in different countries. For example, I think the germans used bank transfer a lot. It’s free. Are sellers now going to pay fees on this ?
Sorry to post an out of date reply. Do you think eBay will replicate PayPal’s merchant rate (with the Managed Payment)?
It’s just their 2.7% + one-off fee is notably higher than the PP merchant rates.
