Amazon today have answered questions on the progress of one-day delivery and what this means for consumers. If you sell via FBA this means that you can offer shoppers a one-day delivery option.
Amazon shared the news in The Amazon Blog: Day One, saying that “one-day delivery news generated a lot of interest, so we want to take this opportunity to answer some questions below.”
When did this start?
Amazon say that they offered increasingly faster delivery options for a number of years through programs such as one-day and same-day delivery, as well as one- or two-hour delivery with Prime Now. They said that they significantly expanded one-day selection and the delivery areas starting in early April and they aren’t done.
Amazon will keep adding more products and expanding their delivery areas to ensure Prime members get their products faster than ever. They will also continue to offer Prime Now, same-day delivery, as well as millions of items for two-day delivery.
Where is prime one day available today?
Customers across the US may have already noticed expanded one-day selection when they shop. In Q4, Amazon announced that they expanded same-day and one-day delivery to more than 10,000 cities and towns, and today Prime Free One Day is available on ten million products, coast to coast. Amazon say that they will keep expanding both the delivery areas and selection for Prime Free One Day.
How many of the products that typically shipped in two days, now arrive in one day?
Prime Free One Day is available on more than ten million products today from Echo devices and headphones to household items and cleaning supplies.
Is this a US-only initiative?
Prime is available in 17 countries today, and the primary Prime delivery speed varies from country to country. For example, in the United Kingdom, Prime members most often see one-day delivery, and in Japan, Prime members most often see same-day delivery.
How are you making a one-day delivery possible?
Amazon say that Prime one-day delivery is possible because they’ve been building their network for over 20 years, enabling them to create a world-class customer experience powered by incredible employees and great technology. Their network in the US includes 110 fulfilment centres, 40 package sortation centres, 100 delivery stations, and 20 air gateways. This allows Amazon to work smarter based on decades of process improvement and innovation, and to deliver orders faster and more efficiently.
Are you offering fast, free shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico?
Amazon say that Prime members in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico can take advantage of free delivery with Prime. They have also been improving delivery speeds to those areas over the last twelve months. Shipping speeds vary between one-five days depending on where the products are coming from.
