eBay Finding API to be upgraded from HTTP to HTTPS

CATEGORY: eBay News

eBay is making a critical update to the eBay Finding API which you’ll need to be aware of if you have created an application or use their Partner Program.

The eBay Finding API enables your application to search for items using eBay’s Finding Platform and allows advanced search capabilities for eBay items with metadata to refine searches. There are multiple types of calls and filters available for you to experiment with to find the mix that works best – For example, a comparison website might use the API to display eBay products that are sold by top rated sellers, above a certain amount, and with free shipping, which could help drastically improve conversion rates.

Before the 1st of October all eBay partners must update their API requests to only use HTTPS service endpoints. After that point, all eBay Finding API calls with HTTP endpoints will fail.

eBay advise that before you update your application to use HTTPS endpoints you’ll need to:

  • Ensure your application hosting platform/provider supports HTTPS
  • Test the HTTPS connection

Both eBay’s sandbox and production environments support HTTPS, so either can be used for testing. You should also check the eBay Developers Program website to confirm whether any other eBay APIs you use also support HTTPS.
