eBay Packlink parcel collection discounts for safe pick up

To encourage sellers to remain safe when buying and selling during the Coronavirus pandemic, eBay UK has teamed up with Packlink so that consumers can have their parcels delivered and collected from their home at no additional cost. The parcel collection and delivery via UPS and Hermes is starts from £2.85 the same price as drop off services.

This is effectively a discount of around a quid a time for parcel collection – the difference between the normal collection price and the discounted price if your pop to your local parcelshop to drop off your parcel. If you’re selling a few personal items on eBay or if you are a small business, stay home, stay safe, have a collection at the same price thanks to eBay.

To use the service, simply select eBay Delivery Powered by Packlink when selecting your delivery options and then print off your label once the item is sold and sit back to wait for your parcel collection.

eBay saw that many used the long Easter weekend to kick start their spring clean, revealing that Tuesday 14th April saw a notable increase in pre-loved listings on the marketplace. Foreseeing further increases in listings over the coming weeks as households look to make some extra money and sell unwanted items, eBay UK hopes that the reduced cost and ease of the parcel collection service, will ensure the safety of its community with sellers following the government’s advice to stay home.

Practice safe selling and keep risks to a minimum

Despite the latest guidance from Public Health England – that “people receiving parcels are not put at any additional risk of contracting the coronavirus” – the safety of eBay’s community remains paramount. With this in mine, eBay are encouraging all users to follow their guidelines to practice safe selling and keep risks to a minimum:

• Clean and disinfect any item you intend to sell – Be considerate when packaging up the item you are selling:
  • Wipe down and disinfect preparation surfaces and wash your hands thoroughly before handling the item you intend to sell
  • Clean and disinfect the item you are selling as appropriate – if it’s clothing you are selling, wash the item in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and ensure it dries completely before packaging up.

   

• Post Offices and Carrier Drops are open – Official guidance that Post Offices and carrier drop off points remain open for you to use in line with social distancing guidance, but try to incorporate visits into your one hour of exercise to avoid unessential trips.
   

• Always follow social distancing guidelines when dropping off parcels for delivery or awaiting collection of your item. Your local outlets will have processes in place, so make sure you check what they are and take care to follow them. If your item cannot be posted and is for collection only, please use sensible social distancing principles to avoid direct contact with your buyer, and agree these in advance with your buyer.
   

• Avoid offering local collection – try to avoid offering local pick-up when selling your item. If a local buyer requests to pick up in person, keep social distancing in mind or consider postponing pick up until restrictions are lifted.
