Hermes UK, who continue to grow massively, are opening a new distribution depot in Westhoughton, Bolton. Over 100 Hermes jobs – all full time, will be created at the substantial 77,800sqft warehouse, which will be operational later this month.
Hermes are the largest UK courier generally available to the public. Only Amazon Logistics (which consumers sellers can’t access) and the Royal Mail postal service handle more parcels according to the Pitney Bowes Parcel Shipping Index.
The new facility will be able to handle over 220K parcels each day, three times as many as its previous site in the area, with the ability to operate 24/7 if required. It forms part of the ongoing investment programme by Hermes UK to expand its capacity to meet the huge demand created by people shopping at home during the pandemic and the continuing growth in the sector.
To support Hermes’ ESG commitments the new depot comes complete with EV charging as Hermes now has 30% electric vehicle ParcelShop fleet, smart lighting and is built to BREEAM certified specifications.
We are all very excited here at Bolton to be moving into our new home. It shows the faith the business has in Team Bolton to deliver a world class service from this world class facility. We are all very grateful for this opportunity and would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this happenPhil Howard, Depot General Manager, Hermes UK
