Zalando, a leading European online platform for fashion and lifestyle, has branched out into toys.
Zalando deliver to customers in 25 countries, with a wide assortment from more than 6,500 brands. Over the past months, they’ve slowly started to add toys which are present currently on their German site, although not displayed in the UK.
Launched in 2010, it took until 2018 for Zalando to add beauty products to it’s range and the addition of toys is the first major category added since that date. There is currently no information as to when Zalando might expand their range of toys or when more toy brands and retailers might be invited to upload their own inventory.
On offer are Lego, Playmobil, Hot Wheels and Mattel in what appears to be a slow test launch of the new category. Shoppers will find cuddly toys, dolls and toy cars for young children, alongside puzzles costumes and Lego for older kids.
Zalando’s other recent news is the shuttering of their Zircle site last November, and bringing the resale of fashion into their main marketplace. Zalando Pre-owned is the place to go on the main Zalando marketplace, where you can still buy and sell preloved clothes in exchange for gift cards. It’s worth noting that Zircle was launched when Zalando didn’t cater for pre-owned fashion on their main site and so the app being discontinued marks it as more of a stepping stone to a circular economy than a failed enterprise.
