eBay Canada has announced the launch of the eBay Trading Cards Authenticity Guarantee, which aims to help both buyers and sellers transact with confidence.
Single, ungraded trading cards sold in Canada for over $250 will now be verified by eBay’s partners at Certified Collectibles Group including Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) and Certified Sports Guaranty (CSG) in eBay’s new Canadian authentication facility, at no additional cost to either the buyer or seller. Both buyer and seller must be located in the Canada. Listings that offer only local pickup or items shipped to P.O. Boxes will not be eligible for Authenticity Guarantee.
Authenticity Guarantee is available for individual sports trading cards, collectible card games, autograph and relic cards, and non-sports trading cards $250 and above for ungraded cards. Sets, lots, kits, decks, boxes, packs, art cards, and redemption cards are not eligible at this time.
Although Authenticity Guarantee does add peace of mind for buyers and sellers, it does slow delivery down. The authenticator will inspect the item within one to two business days after receiving it plus the addition of a second transit time when the card is forwarded to the buyer.
How eBay Trading Cards Authenticity Guarantee works
- List your eligible card and the blue Authenticity Guarantee badge will appear.
- Once a buyer purchases your card, you’ll ship it to our Canada-based authentication facility for inspection.
- Your card goes through a multi-point inspection process performed by CGC or CSG. The card is also checked against listing details before being packaged. Cards are not graded.
- Your card is slipped into a larger penny sleeve and sealed with an authentication sticker. A QR code linking to authentication details is provided. It’s then placed into a padfolio and delivered safely to the buyer via discreet and secure tracked shipping.
If you allow returns and a buyer wishes to return, the card will be re-inspected on the way back, protecting both buyers and sellers.
