B&Q Marketplace sales trajectory

Since their launch in Spring of 2022, B&Q marketplace sales trajectory has been rapid, fast approaching their target of 40% of all online sales.

Kingfisher launched the B&Q marketplace with the aim of expanding the 40,000 products that were currently sold by B&Q, to offer unparalleled choice with millions of products made available through the marketplace.

By March 2023, they has smashed their six months of 100,000 more home improvement products from third-party sellers, with over 340,000 products on the platform – 8x more than when the marketplace launched. At this point B&Q marketplace sales represented 24% of their online sales and by the end of May this had grown to 27%.

At the end of October this year, B&Q marketplace sales reached 35% of their online sales and is showing no signs of slowing down. They’ve rapidly been expanding their selection from third party sellers and have now opened up 21 categories for brands that want to sell on the platform. What makes this even more impressive is that B&Q’s total ecommerce sales increased by 31.8% YoY to the end of October so the B&Q Marketplace sales are becoming a bigger slice of an expanding pie – they’re not simply cannibalising existing sales B&Q would have got anyway.
