eBay advert to open a Play.com account

Wuaki-ad-on-eBay-lgI was somewhat surprised to see a Wuaki.tv advert on eBay.

On first glance there’s no reason that the advert shouldn’t be there – after all a streaming TV service isn’t exactly competition to eBay but eBay may have missed is that “By creating an account with Wuaki.tv you can also use your login details at Rakuten’s Play.com”.

In other words eBay are displaying adverts for users to open up an account with their 2nd biggest competitor in the UK.

In fairness it’s probably difficult for whoever is scanning their AdChoice network to block all undesirable adverts. What next though? Adverts to open an account with Amazon or to sign up for Google Wallet?

  1. Did you see the “eBay for Dummies” ad on tamebay. Seemed to coincide with “Make Serious Money on eBay UK

  2. One of the reasons my business pulled out of eBay seven years ago, was when they started displaying adverts on their search pages.

As an eBay seller, we paid for placements on those pages to sell our products and that should be the focus of eBay.

We found that our compeditors were being displayed in the Google AdWord placements and were paying less per click than we were paying for our listings.
