Our friends at MetaPack have just announced a £20m investment from Index Ventures. Congratulations guys, that’s a decent chunk of change!)
Index partner Dominique Vidal will be join the MetaPack board, which already includes as Chairman, former CEO of Best Buy, Bob Willett, former Chief Executive of Tesco, Sir Terry Leahy, Iain McDonald, David Burtenshaw and Mike O’Connell. Dominique brings with him more than 20 years’ experience of growth companies, including his previous roles as CEO of Yahoo! Europe and founder of Kelkoo.
So what’s the money going to be spent on? Index partner Dominique Vidal explained that “Over the last 3 years in particular, MetaPack has changed the face of online logistics, transforming the supply chain for a host of leading UK retailers. Now it is perfectly positioned to repeat that success across Europe and in global markets. We’re very excited to be able to help them to do that”.
That’s a pretty exciting goal for our friends at MetaPack and one that could be of interest to UK retailers in the long term. If you find yourself selling ever increasing amounts into Europe you may decide at some stage to use a local fulfilment house in say Germany. If MetaPack are already operating in Europe you’ll be able to despatch your purchases from your fulfilment houses automatically selecting the best local courier for the job.
