Spoof email aimed at Amazon Sellers is doing the rounds

No primary category set

We all know that there are lots of spoof emails doing the rounds, but seldom is there a phishing email that targets Amazon sellers directly. But there’s one doing the rounds right now.

Has it come your way?

Here’s the title and the start of the text:

Seller Communication Centre – Changes Notice
From 1 February 2017 all communications through Amazon Seller Communication Centre must be digitally signed for a higher security.

If you do not digitally sign up your email with Amazon Seller Communication Centre until 1 February 2017, you will not be able to communicate with Amazon Buyers until your email will be digitally signed with Amazon.

Needless to say, if you click on the links in the email you’re taken to pages and asked to provide personal details.

Obviously, if you receive this mail, just delete and ignore but it may be that you’ve clicked on the links and provided information already. This particular example (of which you can read more on the Wholesale Forums) is quite interesting though.

It quite deliberately targets Amazon sellers, it isn’t hysterical and refers to what seems like a rather workaday issue and, perhaps most importantly, seems entirely plausible.

It pays to be ultra vigilant, examine the URLs and domains carefully and check your Amazon mails very carefully.

Phishers don’t rely on stupidity but trust. And when you get an email from Amazon you want to address the issue quickly and efficiently. It’s a good idea just to use a bit more caution.

  1. Yes had three of those messages and promptly deleted. Quite a clever one but did not fool me, not that I would ever click on any attachments.
