International carrier Europa Worldwide has announced that it has established a new weekly route between the UK and Malta. They say that they are one of only a few firms offering a dedicated Maltese service.
The small EU member state has a population of 432,000 but the island country is very dependent on imports. They produce only 20% of their food, for instance. In terms of other goods, including consumer items, many come from the UK. English is one of Malta’s official languages and the UK and Malta share a close association.
Saying of the new service:
It’s another string to our bow and broadens the range of products we’re able to offer our customers in house. There are only a handful of providers serving Malta, and many of them are specialised, doing nothing else, so we’re looking to provide our customers with more choice and the backing of our experienced and solutions-focused roading team, without sourcing solutions from outside of our own product range. We see it as an opportunity to grow and diversify our offering. While Malta is one of the smallest destinations we service, it punches well above its weight and due to its strategic position remains an important trading post within Europe.
– Dan Cook, Europa Operations Director, Europe Worldwide
Europa Road has teamed up with one of Malta’s largest trailer and LCL operators, Parnis England Trucking, to establish the new Maltese service. They say that they expect it to generate around 200 export collections per week and 50 import deliveries in a year.
