Like many other eBay sites in the weeks after Christmas, eBay Germany are holding a price promotion this weekend. Insertion fees are free for auctions starting at €1,00 – but there’s a catch. Only private sellers are eligible to take part. Encouraging members to “have a good clean up at home and use our free eBay weekend!”, eBay.de have tried to ensure that business sellers don’t take advantage of the offer to offload their surplus inventory. I’ve heard many sellers say that they “rely” on cheap listing days for their eBay selling strategy: this new twist to eBay’s promotions should encourage them to reconsider such a risky approach.

It’s an interesting one, especially as eBay have stated they’ll be requiring sellers to correctly state their status as either a Business or Private seller in 2008.
