Adverts on eBay to carry AdChoice icon

No primary category set

eBay have just announced more transparency for adverts on eBay which have been personalised according to data eBay holds about you. Currently the adverts have either an “AdChoice” or “about” link to a pop up window explaining how these ads are customised. In the future adverts will carry a new advertising standard AdChoice icon to further indicate that the ads are tailored to you.

It’s possible to opt out of the personalised adverts, but it’s important to note that you’ll still see adverts, they just won’t be tailored to you.

  1. So basically you can choose which adverts annoy you rather than just being randomly annoyed.

Within Ebays explanation of your options they state how proud they are that they are giving you a choice – my choice would be get rid of all the adverts.

If I want Laser surgery, home insurance, a mortgage, a bank loan or anything which I am perfectly capable of finding for myself – thank you – then I will search for it.

I am feed up with ebay trying to second guess what I want to look for – Best Match – Don’t make me laugh.
