Whilst rooting through my shiny new My Messages inbox, I came across an email from eBay which I meant to blog about a couple of weeks ago. It’s warning me about a message from “Another eBay member”:
“Dear mountcomp,
We think this eBay account has been used without the account owner’s permission, so we’re now restoring it to them. To protect this member’s privacy, we can’t share any more details about their account.”
They continue to advise “We strongly recommend you treat emails from this member with caution and don’t respond if you hear from them again”
I’m still trying to figure out why eBay would bother to let me know an account was compromised but not tell me which User Id it refers to. Whilst I appreciate the need to protect user’s privacy, if eBay don’t tell me who they’re talking about then what is the point of emailing me?
You can click the picture above to see the attached screen shot of the entire email. Last time I checked eBay had about 15 million users in the UK alone, so which eBay User Id is it that I should treat with caution? Are you the dodgy miscreant or is it someone that you know?

Which eBay is this of which you speak? Is this the eBay that bans you for mentioning banned members, but won’t let you know who they have banned?
It’s me. I confess!
Ebay seem to think we are all dodgy so it’s a blanket message that applies to every user. Now that ebay have warned you it’s your own fault if you get ripped off/conned!
@3: That’s a good point. Now we have only ourselves to blame! 🙂
lol @ 3
I had one of these a while ago when first setting up but they did give the username of the person, they must have changed something (AGAIN) and some how the username has been removed from the mail.
