eBay Inc. and AEG announced earlier this week that they have come to an agreement regarding the sale of tickets on the secondary market. This represents a global partnership and we should expect to see “technology integrations”.
It is expected to begin in the States in the first quarter of 2013 when Stubhub will become the exclusive secondary ticketing vendor for AEG vebues and AEG’s own AXS Ticketing.
Stubhub will also begin to serve as the secondary ticket source for the Staples Center, the NHL Kings and the MLS Galaxy starting with the ‘13-14 season.
eBay’s President of Global Marketplaces, Stubhub falls under his aegis, Devin Wenig said, “Today, StubHub is largely a domestic U.S. business. This is a significant move to globalize StubHub.” And apparently AEG and eBay “plan perhaps to buy startups together and to create new technologies.”
Stubhub has started operating here in the UK and has an office in central London, but it’s fair to say that it hasn’t made significant waves yet and has not attracted much public attention. THis ambitious deal, however, is perhaps the start of something big for Stubhub in Europe.
