eBay Update Private Seller Fees

No primary category set

eBay InvoiceeBay have now announced the updates to fees for Private Sellers and as expected they too will be paying fees on the postage element of sales. From the 4th of September Private Seller final value fees will be charged based on the combined value of the item listed plus postage.

Private sellers with a Basic Shop will get 200 free fixed price listings per month, up from the current 20 listings. Insertion fees for subsequent listings will be 20p and noteworthy is that media items will no longer be priced differently.

Auction insertion fees are also changing but auctions with a starting price up to 99p will still receive the monthly 100 free insertion fee allowance. From the 101st listing, the insertion fee will be 5p for all categories including media (a change from 5p for media and 10p for all other categories)

For auctions with a start price of £1 and over the insertion fee will be a flat 15p, replacing the previous insertion fee bands and representing a considerable saving for listing items with higher start prices.

  1. If ebay charge fees on the postage that means sellers will have to add about 20% to the actual postage cost to cover both ebay and paypal fees, plus £1 or so to cover packaging.
This will result in buyers complaining about high postage, giving unwarranted poor feedback when it is not the fault of the sellers but of ebay.
My ebay sales have reduced substantially since postage charges increased last April. This latest move will make it even worse.

  2. Why not add the 20% you want to charge to the item price rather than postage cost? Least you’d not cause extra hassle from high postage claims.

  3. As there is no note of a Free Listing Weekend this weekend I decided to pay for a few listings. Imagine my surprise when I tried to list 2 x items and they both came up Free.

Perhaps somebody at ebay has pressed the right buttons to get a Free Listing Weekend and not gone the whole hog of putting it in the “News”.

So if you are totally depressed with the Test Match an alternative would be for you to try a few listings and see if they come up Free for you as well.

  4. If Ebay’s ONLY intention in imposing a final valuation fee to include postage was to overcome the loading of P&P by sellers to reduce fees, then they would have reduced the final valuation fees to 8/9%. Since they have not done this then it is no more than pure greed on their part.
