It’s eBay Seller release time and there’s some great news. Having listened to eBay sellers they’re scrapping 10p fines (otherwise known as the Outdated listing fees) previously announced in the latest fee change statement.
eBay say that the intention to clean up old listings is still very much there and that scrapping the punitive fines for listings older than 18 months doesn’t take away from the broader point that relevant contemporary listings perform much better.
We’re pretty sure that in the near future eBay will revisit this and we’d still encourage you to review your listings, especially your older listings which haven’t had a sale in some time. However this will be a very welcome announcement for sellers of products such as books, DVDs, CDs, stamps and postcards where a deep long tail inventory is essential in order to provide choice and selection.
Thank you eBay!

Ok, that’s a good start.
But what about this £250 per month whack on shops over 50,000 items or 5p per item price hike?
Is that still coming?
Woo Hoo! That is great news.
Now all I have to do is add the MPN to all my listings. Oh well.
S.
My bet is they couldn’t come up with a program to identify listings over 18 months old.
There’s been no announcement of any tool, so I guess that’s the main reason.
The noise on the Ebay boards about this probably hasn’t had a bearing, as Ebay doesn’t listen to sellers.
Still continuing with the removal of Ebay listings onto other sites, as I see no reason to change that.
We have a shop with more than 50,000 individual distinct items in collectables and we are not going to pay the £250 per month fee hike.
If you are reading this, Ebay bosses, get rid of the stupid £250/month or 5p / item hike on shops.
Large sellers are there for the long haul and you will lose them at your peril.
Good move – well done, eBay.
I suspect the sole reasoning behind this is ebay can’t reliably indentify the age of the lisiting. Remember these are the people who make the ebay catalague and item specifics mandatory – both woefully poor and never corrected, and frankly, a liability
i dont think its because of techy side of things, this would be very easy to do..
simple IF listing is >18 months, CHARGE 10p – of course thats a simplified version of the code involved.
my guess is the outpooring of discontent from the announcement so they back tracked.
I always thought this was silly anyway. All you had to do was end the listing before the 18 months and relist.
