From the end of the month Amazon will be discontinuing its trade in scheme, according to an announcement on the Amazon UK website.
The trade-in scheme allowed you to send Amazon books and video games and the like and they would be exchanged for Amazon gift cards.
Amazon says in its announcement: We are closing our Trade-In programme on 31 August 2015. We will no longer be accepting trade-in submissions after this date.
You can submit trade-in items as normal up to and including 31 August 2015. No Trade-In orders can be submitted online after the closure date. Please ensure your trade-in items are dispatched within 7 days after your submission. Trade-Ins sent after this time will not be accepted by us and will be returned to your address. Please note trade-in submissions sent via Royal Mail may take up to 6 business days to arrive before your submission is processed.”
Amazon don’t explain why they are discontinuing this facility but I’d suspect that it is under used and other services out there doing a similar thing are considerably more popular.
Will this affect you?

I used this quite a few times over the past few years – probably sent them over 30 games and books at least.
They gave good prices, free postage, and a quick turnaround. At the time, they were much better than Music Magpie; however, MM have since upped their game considerably in terms of usability and effort required (if not the price they offer).
I also suspect the competition is too stiff, and possibly not worth the effort to Amazon.
