Ecommerce is coming along in Chile according to DHL

We like to cast our eyes to faraway horizons on Tamebay and there aren’t many places further away from British shores than Chile in South America. And it sounds like ecommerce is developing well there.

DHL has started offering ecommerce delivery services in Chile and, so far, they say their service has exceeded expectations in terms of take up. According to DHL, more than 50 SMEs signed up in month one and the company is keen to do more in the region.

Chile is a developed consumer market and also boasts a high level of credit card usage for the area. It also has good roads. But delivery services are not developed outside the urban areas and courier services have hitherto been predominantly focused on business-to-business affairs.

DHL eCommerce Latin America and Canada CEO Paul Tessy says of the new market: “Our solution in Chile is very groundbreaking from what the competition is offering. The business is already booming because there is nothing like that out there.” Aspects of the DHL package in Chile include evening and weekend deliveries, a tracking app, very competitive charges for small packets and a home collection option for returns.

According to BMI Research, ecommerce is expect to grow in the region by something like 14% up to 2020. And Amazon is expected to take a greater interest in such countries soon too. DHL’s early interest looks like a canny move.
