Meet the company: Pass My Parcel

No primary category set

Pass My Parcel offer a unique alternative to other carriers with a collection service from local parcel shops around the country.

One of the things that will immediately appeal to online retailers is their price point, especially bearing in mind their generous weight allowance of 17kg. When we found out that you could send a parcel weighing up to 2kg for £2.25 ex VAT we immediately knew a ton of Tamebay readers would find it an attractive proposition and so had to find out more. We spoke to Nick Russell, Digital Marketing Manager and asked how the service worked and how to book a delivery.

Who are Pass my Parcel?

Pass My Parcel was founded in 2014 as a brand of Smiths News, the UK’s largest newspaper and magazine wholesale distributor, itself tracing its roots back to 1792. Pass My Parcel utilises Smiths News’ massive experience in retail distribution to offer a parcel delivery service via its 3,500 parcel shops found in convenience stores, supermarkets and newsagents around the country.

What do you do?

To date Pass My Parcel’s core operation has been handling click & collect and parcel returns for major retailers like Amazon, Asos and FCUK. Now the company has branched out to offer a Send service where individuals and small businesses can send parcels from parcel shops located in neighbourhoods across the country.

Why should I use you instead of your competitors?

Pass My Parcel parcels can be sent, collected or returned from parcel shops open from 7am seven days a week and typically these close after 8pm which provides opportunities to send parcels before or after work, or at any convenient point in the day including Saturdays and Sundays. No more waiting in for couriers or standing in long queues at the post office.

What would your ideal customer look like?

Pass My Parcel is an ideal service for online traders, small businesses or individuals sending low volumes of packages throughout the week. And because their delivery network is already in place and active on a daily basis they are able to offer an efficient, reliable and economical parcel delivery service.

Final delivery of domestic parcels are handled by Pass My Parcel’s sister company Tufnells and courier partner DX.

How do I book a send?

The process is handled completely online at passmyparcel.com/send where customers can buy and download their label and then they simply attach it securely to their parcel before dropping it off at their local parcel shop for pick up.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell Tamebay readers?

With prices starting at £2.25 ex VAT for a parcel weighing up to 2kg and insured up to £20 Pass My Parcel is amongst the cheapest economy parcel services. What’s more, for a limited period Tamebay readers can save a further 20% on all parcels sent in the UK or worldwide. To get your discount voucher code go to passmyparcel.com/tamebay-reader-offer.

  1. Whilst prices for delivery are competitive there is no integration with ebay so filling out each parcel would be time consuming Also delivery window seems slow 2 – 4 days. ebay buyers won’t be happy if they find out it will take 4 days for a delivery once it has been dropped off.

  2. As far as I can tell from the quote engine prices seem slightly better than hermes but I was unable to get a definitive list of prices and max parcel dimensions / compensation levels for each price band.

I think ebay customers would be OK with the extra delivery time providing you selected the appropriate service in your listing

Again as already noted you would have to enter the information manually. However in contrast with Hermes in order to get the Hermes’ small parcel rates without a business account/pickup (5000 parcels a year) you still need to enter items manually on their site too.

I get round this my using a macro recorder (autokey software) which automatically records key strokes and cuts and pastes the customer information into the courier screen). It takes 11secs as opposed to 1m 30 secs. Something to consider if you have the technical skill.

  3. Using Royal Mail we pay (per parcel) £2.22 + VAT for 15+ parcels but pay as little as £2.10 + VAT for 50+ parcels. These are all under 1Kg.

Sounds like a good service for the occasional parcel to somebody, but not one I would use as a main business partner.
