If you’ve not yet used eBay Payments to purchase from a seller, you may well find that eBay will bung you $5 as an eBay Payments Incentive to enter your credit card and complete the purchase.
The eBay Payments Incentive will appear on the checkout page when you are making a purchase from a seller enrolled in the early trials of eBay Managed Payments and will be a short duration tempted – in this case valid for just two days and using the code PERKFIVE.
We’re all in favour of the eBay payments incentive – for buyers accustomed to paying with PayPal there may be a certain reluctance to enter their bank card details to complete a purchase, not least of which because they may not even have their bank card with them. Buyers will also by default have their card details remembered for future purchases although they can opt out to have them forgotten if they so wish.
There have been many comments across forums where eBay users have professed a distrust of eBay and think it’s a bit sneaky for eBay to auto-tick the box to remember bank card details and that’s worth addressing. Firstly, it’s not exactly an unusual practise to have an ecommerce site remember your card details – anyone that for instance shops on Amazon will have stored their card details and won’t be entering them each time they make a purchase. Many eBay users cite total distrust of eBay and think that as soon as eBay store their banking credentials that they’ll be hacked and their bank accounts emptied. It’s worth a quick reminder that eBay owned PayPal for 12 years and those same users weren’t exactly reluctant to have an eBay owned PayPal remember their bank details so why suddenly get all hot under the collar about eBay Payments?

while ebay -owned- paypal, they didn’t operate paypal.
those who were reluctant to use them at first have many years experience of trust in paypal, and very little to change that opinion.
anyone who pays attention to ebay more than five minutes realises they are majorly incompetent in several regards, simply cannot be trusted, and have a history of being less than honest (and this is me being generous).
that’s why i assume some people get hot under the collar about ebay payments.
luckily ebay payments isn’t actually ebay payments, i assume Adyen has some competency behind them.
why just this week ebay admits there’s a bug they didn’t bother warning us about (again), that’s sending completely un-suitable items for click and collect, despite the seller definitively not being in click & collect. its going to take ebay over a month to fix that tiny site-specific ebay-only issue.

The idea of an incentive, to get buyers to use eBay payments, was one of the first things mentioned by somebody on one of the other “numerous” blogs about eBay payments on Tamebay.
Unfortunately, not allowing Paypal for 6 months is a totally bad idea.
Who would not take advantage of £5 when buying an item, as a first time incentive? Especially if you ran it for 6 months to give all customers a chance to sign up.
