Can thoroughly recommend the eBay Meet Ups – its a noble attempt to get eBay folk together. We did a little profile on them here:

As far as the announcements … I heard that eBay’s plan is to end the chance of NPB’s for good. Probably by bringing in the shopping cart (I hope) items sitting in a shopping cart will still be available for sale so if they’re not checked out, they’re not yours!
