eBay Ireland brings ads to the navigation bar

No primary category set

Just when you thought eBay’s advertising couldn’t get any tackier:

ebayie

This kind of advertising – disguising it as site functionality in the hope of “accidental” clicks – shows a disregard for site users that beggars belief even coming from eBay. I don’t know how long eBay.ie has had this advertising, but I sincerely hope it doesn’t spread to any other eBay sites.

  1. that beggars belief even coming from eBay.

I think it is very telling that we add on ‘even from Ebay’ to thoughts.

I am getting very boring, I imagine, of repeating the same ol’, same ol’ fact that ebay really do need to work on how they are percieved.

  2. Allowing these ads to appear as navigation links integrated with and appearing the same as core site navigation is the worst possible design / usability sin. Would you trust a site that used deceitful tactics to get you to somewhere you didn’t imagine you were going, i.e off eBay?

Donahoe’s ‘Chaos’ theory? No, just incompetence and greed.

  3. I see it too, John. Though I have to say, at least that is a link to eBay’s daily deals and not off-site. But “the thin end of the wedge”, I’d guess.

  4. Is there anywhere eBay wont stick advertising? I know where I’d like them to stick it. 😈 😆
