Automated Payment reminder emails go live on eBay

No primary category set

The new Payment Reminder emails promised for mid June are now live. Any buyer that hasn’t paid within two days will now receive an automated reminder email from eBay requesting payment.

If your prefer your buyers not to receive automated reminder emails it’s possible to opt out in your My eBay Preferences leaving you free to send your own payment reminder emails. For those who sell on auctions or who traditionally have customers who take a few days to pay (especially if buyers are paying by cheque and don’t use eBay checkout) then this might be an option worth considering.

Personally I’m going to leave the automated payment requests turned on – I prefer to be paid fast and to ship fast and anything that encourages this is good news as far as I’m concerned, especially as the vast majority of my customers choose to use PayPal.

  1. I have never understood the mentality which does not pay for something immediately on buying. We can’t do it at the grocery store, or on Amazon or in fact on any website. Why is it OK to do it on eBay?

  2. I find in my experience that if buyers don’t pay for buy it now purchases within a couple of hours of them buying, they either don’t pay at all or wait for UPI to be opened. A reminder probably won’t do the trick. I currently have 4 buyers in receipt of this reminder yesterday and none of them have paid or contacted me. It’s more likely to annoy them rather than make them pay up. I think I am going to switch it off as I’d rather them not pay for their own reason rather than me “pestering”.
Someone will no doubt chime in about making everything ipo and this issue would not exist, however not everyone’s business model or customers appreciate this little tool.

  3. thought you might want to see the wording of the email sent…

“Thanks for your recent purchase on eBay! Please remember to pay for your item so that the seller can ship it to you as soon as possible.

Note: If you’ve already made payment arrangements with your seller, you can disregard this reminder with our thanks.

Thanks again for shopping on eBay!”
