eBay are bidding on my User Id on Adwords

No primary category set

Every now and again I’ll do a check of my Internet profile more out of curiosity than anything and today’s check discovered that eBay are bidding on Google Adwords for my eBay user ID.

They’ve not got it quite right though, they’re linking my User Id which is to Pet Supplies, whereas I trade exclusively in computer products. Quite how they linked me to pet supplies I don’t know, but I’m betting it’s not paying dividends for them.

Are eBay bidding on your eBay User ID as a keyword? If so have they linked it to a relevant category?

  1. I’ve noticed the same on Yahoo,Bing and Google in the past, eBay and Amazon bid on our shop names, Amazon always goes direct to our shop, eBay can be very hit and miss and either they have a glitch or it is being run by idiots who have no idea how to run adword campaigns, currently clicking on eBay’s yahoo ad takes you here https://bit.ly/dllocv which is a waste of time for the potential buyer and a waste of money for eBay. I should have an ad commerce ad showing just for this reasonbut that appears to be broke as well lol

  2. I think a lot of eBay’s bidding is automated. So it means you came up enough for the adwords sausage machine to catch you.

Most of the register and daily mail article on this (Steve Erwin on eBay when he died) was because the sausage machine caught the increase in activity on those words.

  3. eBay did something weird a couple of years ago. They bid on one of my website names on Yahoo and the text of the ad said: “Looking for retaliatory feedback? Find exactly what you want today. http://www.eBay.com” This was nearly two months after they got rid of negs for buyers.

I don’t know if they were trying to discredit me or what was going on. I doubt it had many clickthroughs and the ad disappeared a few weeks later.

  4. They don’t bid on the keywords at all, this is done using a google/yahoo algorithm to search all the net for similar words. eBay stopped paying for ads on google several years ago after Meg Whitman spat the dummy out over a show in Boston where Google decided to have one the same day
