Amazon UK have been promoting their Trade In service to buyers recently. It’s quite a neat service. Have you seen it?
If you have previously bought an item on Amazon, you are invited to check out its valuation. It could be a book, DVD, CD or video game. If you like the price that Amazon offer, you can produce a label, send the item back to Amazon and receive an Amazon credit on your account.
It’s an ingenious way for buyers to get a bit back on something used but now unwanted without all the faff of selling on eBay. It also keeps the customer close from Amazon’s point of view as any money made will be spent with them again.
I’m unlikely to dip my toes in this particular reach of the Amazon. Looking at my recent Amazon purchases, mostly books needless to say, the max return fee I am offered is a measly 25p for one hardback book. Although some games and textbooks do seem to be attracting decent fees (opver a tenner), it’s not worth my while for a few pennies.

I’ve always thought that there should be some sort of Trade In system for Books. Most of my stock is Specialist Books(mostly Transport).
Over the years I have seen several Publishers produce an up dated version of a Book. Its probably got one or more extra chapters to bring the story up to date, any errors found in the original book will have been corrected and almost certainly a lot more photographs. Yet those who bought the original version cannot trade in their book against the new edition.
But unless the book is severely worn or damaged or perhaps is total rubbish it should have a secondhand value of more than 25p. Although I do find myself wondering what Amazon intends to do with secondhand books? Perhaps sell them on ebay???
