Picture standards delayed til 8th November

eBay Picture StandardseBay have delayed implementation of new picture standards to the 8th of November, they were supposed to kick into action today.

eBay said “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause”. In truth though, I don’t think there’ll be much inconvenience – for those sellers who have already edited their listings there’s nothing to worry about. For those that haven’t they’ve got another week’s grace to comply.

I’m guessing that the daily deals team will be more than happy with the extra week, as they’ve still got a ton of graffiti ridden listings to get cleaned up. I’m guessing that it would be important to get the highest profile listings on eBay compliant with picture standards before they kick in, although in truth it’s much more likely to be a technical implementation delay than to give eBay enterprise sellers more time to comply.

  1. For those of us who sell Books and tap in the ISBN there is still no sign of any improvement in the very poor number of Books where there is a standard photograph. If anything the situation is getting worse with photographs being deleted and nothing lodged to replace them. The situation with Newly Published titles is even worse. 2013 titles with no technical details and no photograph are the norm rather than the exception. Surely if ebay is going to crack the whip in regard to the quality of photographs the first step should be to ensure that where there is a Standard File(as is the case with Books) that it is complete and up to date.

  2. The gross unfairness is that at the moment the compliant merchants are seriously disadvantaged with their listings being lost amongst ‘illegal’ graffiti.

  3. Does anyone know if variant pics need to be compliant as well?

I get a different answer everytime I ask eBay.

  4. The tool that eBay have been promoting for sellers to check picture size is provided by a third party ‘shipscript’.

I have seen it quoted that eBay UK support for the tool is only until the end of November whereupon the tool is likely to be taken down.

So the message has to be – get on top of all your picture sizes now (even small pictures on GTC listings which are good to go until sometime in 2014).

  5. This is likely to stop me selling on eBay. I have just spoken to a woman there who basically said tough.

There is no easy way to tell which variation pictures don’t meet the criteria. I have over 1000 of those.

I recently started with Brightpearl, which has been a disaster – don’t touch it with a barge pole. I now have a problem that Brightpearl will not be able to update my inventory on eBay when I sell something on Amazon.

This will result in all my inventories getting corrupted.

I think I am going to cry and I am 40 years old!
