Lorrie Norrington leaves eBay

LorrieeBay has announced this evening that Lorrie Norrington, president of eBay Marketplaces, will be leaving the company for personal family reasons. Lorrie has been head of Marketplaces since 2008, and has been at eBay since 2005.

There’s no immediate word of who her successor will be, and in the interim, the Marketplaces team will be reporting directly to CEO John Donahoe.

eBay’s press release has a long list of the company’s achievements during Lorrie’s presidency, but my abiding memory of her will be on stage in Chicago, talking about how it felt to read blog posts and forum threads every day that ripped eBay and its management to shreds. I believed then and I believe now that – whatever your thoughts about eBay the company – Lorrie is an immensely capable and likeable business person, and she’ll be missed. We wish her well in whatever she does next.

  1. “whatever your thoughts about eBay the company…

The company dodsn’t exist on its own its made up of the people that run it. If its deeply unpopular amongst a lot of sellers its because of the people that run it including this lady.

If she was reading those posts two years ago then not a lot has changed in those two years.

If she’s been reading them for the last years then she has either been unwilling or unable to put matters right

  2. I am very happy to see her go. To me ebay is an auction site and always will be. The idiotic idea that they should become like amazon is just nuts. When half.com failed as an amazon like store they should have dropped the idea then…instead of transforming all of ebay. Auctions create a sense of urgancy that buy it now items never will. She failed and she deserves the boot (even though they claim she is leaving on her own she was likely forced). John failed and he does too!
