Meet the company: GAME Marketplace

No primary category set

GAME Marketplace is a relatively new proposition in the UK for marketplace retailers, but we’ve already heard of some fantastic success stories. We wanted to know more about what GAME Marketplace has to offer online sellers and why you should consider selling on the marketplace, so in this week’s Meet The Company we asked some of these questions:

Who are GAME?

Chances are you have probably encountered us before. GAME is the UK’s leading videogames retailer committed to delivering for the gaming communities of the UK; online, in-store, on mobile and through its app. With a market-leading Reward proposition, incredible exclusive content and great deals on new and pre-owned games and electronics, GAME is the number one destination for all gaming needs.

GAME.co.uk has over 1.7 million unique visitors each week with over 10 million individual page views. The brand extends to Multiplay, hosting the Insomnia gaming events at the Birmingham NEC and the recently launched Belong, offering multiplayer gaming arenas in-store.

GAME Marketplace

GAME recently launched a Marketplace solution allowing third party sellers to be integrated onto GAME.co.uk. This unique proposition is growing fast year on year and currently there are over 400 third party sellers successfully trading, each bringing their own product range and unique style to GAME Marketplace. This includes sellers offering tech, AV, mobile phones, tablets and more.

What are the opportunities for sellers on GAME Marketplace?

GAME Marketplace has several unique features:

  1. It is completely risk free

There are no fees for listing, set-up, or subscriptions! Sellers can ship their products with confidence as all customers go through a fraud check process when purchasing. Setting up is simple as most products match up to GAME’s own catalogue, and even easier if you use a supported 3rd party aggregator.

  2. Website integration

Sellers are completely integrated onto GAME.co.uk and become a seamless part of GAME’s online offering.

  3. Huge audience

GAME.co.uk has over 1.7 million unique visitors (from gamers to gifters) each week with over 10 million individual page views.

  4. Free promotional marketing

We offer the opportunity to be included on our Deals Page online and across our social media platforms (Facebook – 800,000 likes, Twitter – over 300,000 followers).

  5. Quick set-up

On-boarding is quick and simple – register interest, answer a few questions and we’ll organise a call to guide you through the rest! We have seen sellers set up and selling on the same day!

  6. 1-2-1 Support from real people

Most importantly we have a dedicated team of real people here to support you at all times, we pride ourselves on a personal approach to supporting our GAME Marketplace sellers.

What would your ideal marketplace seller look like?

Anything new or pre-owned, with a gaming or electronic focus (think mobile phones, PC’s, gaming rigs, board games etc.) sells well on GAME.co.uk, but the gaming community are a forward thinking bunch and we always welcome new ideas and innovation.

Case Study

Custom Controllers are now the EU’s leading manufacturer for customised gaming controllers. But it wasn’t always this way, based in Leeds the company began by releasing a small range of products in 2007. Ben Lawton, the owner of the company, reported that when they joined GAME Marketplace in January 2016 their orders increased by 40%. They were aided by free promotions around key events such as Black Friday and the orders kept flooding in.

Their success on marketplace was so great that it caught the attention of GAME’s retail department and Custom Controllers now proudly sell in GAME stores as well as online.

  1. We have been selling on GAME.co.uk for over a year now. No silly sub fees and and listing fees. They use the Mirkal platform which is easy to use. We pay 11%, and they pay out every week.
We can sell both our Pre-owned and New stock. We are always looking for alternatives away from the Likes of eBay and Amazon.
We have had one issue a INR claimer and one return it all the time. We are happy to continue using. We would not pay sub FEES however. They also take a whack on the post if you charge it.
We like the fact they let us create product, i.e there is no point in going head to head on price with the music magpies who just destroy every market they touch, so we have to concentrate on unique lines. It is another Battle to the bottom with PRICE like every marketplace, and they concentrate heavily on the Uk market and you do have to compete with them direct. We do OK with GAME along with some other options it has allowed us to get away from Amazon and eBay a lot in the last year. We have gone from 1500 lines on ebay to 350 now. Signing up with them was easy, some guy phoned and it was all straight forward also
We used to have an account manager but they seem to have disappeared, but when we need to contact them which is rare we get a fairly quick response. More retailers should start doing this.
However like every marketplace they charge fees, customer wants the BEST deal go direct.
