Marketplace Overview

It’s probably best to get it out of the way. What’s with the name? Oodlique is a rather strange word: it’s a portmanteau term saying that they have oodles of unique items for sale. They specialise in personalised gifts and wonderful items that suit special occasions like weddings and christenings. They say that they welcome unique products from highly talented craftspeople and manufacturers from around the world but the majority of users are in the UK and Ireland and buyers are international.

Oodlique was launched in October 2016 and now hosts over 3000 products from 250 gift makers. They say that quality and uniqueness are top priorities when they choose which merchant partners they would like to work with. They also say that they have merchants and makers who already turnover in the region of thousands of pounds in sales each month.

Seller registration and requirements

You need to apply to oodlique to get your goods up and available but they say it’s straight-forward. Business reputation, the quality of the goods, your business location and (much more importantly) your business reputation. You can find the online form here, alongside more reasons to sign up with the marketplace.

There are no setup or subscription fees involved in creating an account but they do charge a commission and a service charge on orders. The exact rates aren’t published. All seller applications are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Product listings and fulfilment

You can upload your listings yourself online, providing details and shipping costs. You determine your own shipping terms. Everything needs to be reviewed and approved before your wares are available to shoppers.

Tamebay’s take on Oodlique

Oodlique is new to us. But it does sounds like they are delivering sales to their growing cohort of sellers. So if you are active in the personalised goods and gift sphere it is well worth exploring and seeing if your fabulous items make the grade. We’d love to hear more about people who have used oodlique, especially if you’re a merchant, to understand better the impact and success of this interesting new venue.

The proof of these things is always in the pudding and gifts and crafts and personalisation is a crowded space. We wonder if there is space for new players to cut-through. We shall see: but there is plenty on offer out there.
