Since we recorded the video above with the B&Q Marketplace, they have released updated numbers and opened up new categories for retailers to sell in, making the opportunity even bigger as a channel to expand your sales on.
After just one year of trading, the B&Q Marketplace has revealed that, in April this year, their marketplace sales on DIY.com reached 27% of their total online sales. B&Q’s total ecommerce sales growth of +4.7% represented 16.9% of Group sales, and they’re not stopping there, they have the desire to grow B&Q Marketplace sales to 40% of online.
Put simply, marketplace sales on DIY.com are growing fast and it’s an ever increasing slice of sales for retailers selling on the channel, so much so that it simply can’t be ignored if they cater for categories that your product set fits.
We continue to execute our strategy at pace, making good progress across all our key priorities. Screwfix is trading well and seeing particularly strong demand from trade customers, with total sales up 6.5%. The business continues to drive its store expansion plans in the UK, Ireland and France. E-commerce sales were another highlight in the quarter, up 4.7%. One of the drivers of this is the continued success of B&Q’s marketplace, which reached 27% of B&Q’s online sales in April, a year after its launch.

And there’s even better news, there are five new categories opening up on the marketplace:
- Automotive
- Greens (Plants)
- Camping
- Outdoor Games and Toys
- Building Supplies
Automotive is perhaps the most interesting category here as it’s a massive vertical for existing marketplaces that cater for the sector. After fashion, tech, home & garden, automotive is one of the biggest categories there is with a ready pool of regular shoppers.
These five new categories are in addition to the categories already live on the B&Q Marketplace which are:
- Lighting
- Power Tools
- Wallpaper
- Small Domestic Appliances
- Kitchen Sinks & Taps
- Cookware & Tableware
- Decorative
- Bathroom
- Furniture
- Storage
- Wall & Floor Coverings
- Christmas
- Garden Structures & Leisure
- Paint
- Painting Tools & Cleaning
- Plumbing
- Heating & Cooling
- Electrical
